Cooperativa Sant’Orsola: turnover 2006 +10%
Rome - Sant’Orsola, an Italian cooperative, specialized in the production and sales of berries, celebrates its 35th anniversary with a 10% turnover increase in 2006, to 44 mln euro.
Last year Sant’Orsola produced about 6,000 MT of soft fruit and berries, which respresents an 11% decrease compared to 2005. However, a positive market trend and a careful commercial strategy allowed the cooperative’s growers to counterbalance the production decrease.
The main markets for Sant’Orsola are Italian distributors (50%) and retailers (38%), while export represent 12% of the total turnover.
Cooperative’s chairman Federico Oss observes: “We have succeeded in facing growing competition from those countries which have recently joined EU and where production costs are lower than in Italy.”
Sant’Orsola manager Michele Scrinzi expresses his contentment: “Commercial results 2006 repay our work and the efforts of our growers, who will receive 15% greater share than in 2005.”
