Bolivia: blueberries for export
Tholen – The research project “production and export of blueberries” performed by the Centro Empresarial Latinoamericano established a pilot farm of 10 hectares of blueberries in the department Tarija in Bolivia. Cimar Rocha, director of the project, announced that this pilot project can be successfully repeated in other Bolivian zones, such as the Cochabamba Valley.
Mr. Rocha, argues that the opportunity to invest in these productive alternatives contribute to the economic development of the small-scale farmers from Bolivia and open market opportunities to exporting firms. In fact, from November to March there is a lack of supply in the Northern hemisphere. For this reason, there is a great potential of blueberries exports.
The idea surged from the seminar “Entrepreneur Ideas" (Ideas emprendedoras), organized by Grupo Nueva Economía, Corporación Andina de Fomento (CAF), Swisscontact, Cedes and Fundación Norte.
