RayTec Vision: sorting machineries for fresh and semi-finished food products

Rome – The Italian firm RayTec Vision is part of the Italian group Sacmi Catelli, which is known for producing advanced machines for sorting and inspecting fresh produce. At the occasion of Fruit Logistica 2007, FreshPlaza met Raffaele Pezzoli, general manager RayTec Vision, who has presented Spray, one of the last creations in the area of sorting machines.

Raffaele: “Spray has been realized in 2002 and the commercialization phase has begun in 2004. Currently this machinery is used by some of the most important fresh cut fruit and vegetables producers all around the world. Spray is not only an optical sorter but also an electronic one, thanks to the application of the NIR (Near Infrared) technology. It can exactly detect the chlorophyll content of the checked vegetables and so it discards any foreign body, even if it resembles a lettuce leaf. Our aim is that to reduce the human intervention in sorting to a minimum.”

Spray can process up to 1,5 MT of cut vegetables per hour. Raffaele: “We have realized a more powerful model too, which can process up to 3 MT of cut vegetables per hour. With regard to cut fruit, for example apples or pears for fruit salads, Spray can process up to 10 MT per hour. At the moment, we count 34 Spray sorting machines all around the world and we are busy providing another 16 machines. Almost all peas which are sold in Italy have been processed by means of this machinery. Its cost is about 160.000 euro.”

Bonduelle is one of the main customers of RayTec Vision. Raffaele: “We are selling Spray machinery in many countries. One of our most recent customers is Dijckhof Foods from Venlo (the Netherlands).”
