SIFE expects 1,5 mln. boxes of bananas in 2007

Tholen - SIFE Spa, the Italian banana operator who revitalised the Lola brand of bananas and pineapples from Central America, expects an import volume of 1,5 mln. boxes of bananas to the EU this year. Since it’s introduction, the brand has been shipped to various markets and caught much attention on different levels, varying from media to stock analysts.

Last years, the banana market has been unattractive for all banana operators and this also results in the more conservative program for this year, compared to last year, when 2,5 mln boxes were shipped. The European market absorbed roughly 161 mln. boxes of dollar bananas from January until November last year, plus 45 mln. from ACP countries and approximately 15,5 mln. boxes from the Canaries during that period.
