Stability in European banana market

Tholen - According to AEBE, the Association of Ecuadorian Banana Exporters, the European banana market has led to satisfying sales results, with exception of the UK and Italy, where the sales of yellow bananas did not entirely recover. For the remainder, the consumption remained significant, thanks to the weather conditions in Europe which favoured the banana consumption. Furthermore the arrivals of bananas from ACP countries (Africa, Caribbean and Pacific) remained stable and moderate, with volumes that are common for this time of the year.

In week 8 one expected a slight consumption increase and also satisfying prices because of the school holiday season. The market was balanced because of stable arrivals of green bananas, but on the spot market arrivals of some 30.000 boxes from Costa Rica and Ecuador were expected.
