Moldavia: fresh produce export to Russia won’t start before April

Warsaw - According to Russian information agency Regnum (www.regnum.ru), deliveries of Moldavian fruits and vegetables to Russia will be resumed not earlier than in April 2007 - stated representatives of Moldavian Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry on January 30. As in the case of meat-processing enterprises, also in the fresh produce sector the inspection of Russian experts must be carried out.

Documentary checking will start at the beginning, since the new season for fruit and vegetables didn’t begin yet. Then, during the start of the harvesting season of 2007, the next Russian inspections will follow. The compromise concerning the renewal of fruit and vegetable deliveries to Russia was achieved at the end of the past week during the visit of Moldavian minister of agriculture and food industry Anatoliy Gorodenko in Moscow. The Russian ban for fresh produce from Moldavia was introduced on 16th May 2005.

Before, the Russian share in Moldavian export of fruits and vegetables was estimated at 75%. Lets note that Russia still bans import of fresh produce, not only from Moldavia but also from Poland and Georgia.
