Constant rain reduces supply of fruits and vegetables in Brazil

Tholen – Last week Brazilian citrus producers had expectations on increasing prices due to the bad weather conditions in California. However, this week the climate has affected their cultivations and distribution logistics: oranges in the case of Sao Paulo and some vegetables in Belo Horizonte.

At the moment, domestic prices of oranges are stable. In contrast to international markets that feature some instabilities in the prices of frozen or concentrated orange juice (FCOJ), which quotes 207,55 cents of dollar per pound in January 17. and 202 cents of dollar per pound in January 26. at the New York Stock Market. Other fresh produce increased prices 40% due to the lower supply that in some cases observed a reduction of 15%. The constant rains in these Brazil regions are also affecting the quality of the products.
