Spanish Minister suggests complements to the CMO of fruits and vegetables

Tholen – The meeting of the Council of Europe held yesterday in Brussels, chapter Agriculture, had as a first topic on the agenda the reform of the common market organization (CMO) of fruits and vegs. Elena Espinosa, Spanish Minister of Agriculture, suggests to the Commission and the Council Presidency some additional elements to solve the short-term problems of the sector. Furthermore, the Minister argued the difficulties that some producers would confront as a result of decoupling aids in products with double use as fresh or transformed (e.g. citrus) and the effects of third countries exports in the domestic EU production.

The Minister punctually suggests four elements to put on debate: flexibility on resources of operation by the organization of producers, enhancement of the funds for the financial support, more promotion to the concentration of organizations of producers in every EU country and reconsideration of the decoupling mechanism for products with double use (fresh or transformed).
