Cooperative Santa Margherita widens fresh products supply
Rome – At the occasion of Fruit Logistica, visitors and customers of the stand of the Italian cooperative Santa Margherita will be able to taste some new fresh products from Sardinia. Quality and marketing manager Ignazio Manca explains: “Besides our main cherry tomato varieties such as Fragolino and Minuetto, we are also promoting the artichoke cultivar Spinoso, which is typical from our island. Spinoso is appreciated for its tasty and tender leaves. Its form is elongated and elegant and it appears to be very resistant under bad weather conditions as well. We would like to launch Spinoso on the European market, where we see that artichokes are not so much consumed. We will propose Spinoso in consumer-friendly packaging, where artichokes will be presented ready to be cooked and consumed.
Artichokes are not only a precious source of natural fiber and vitamin A, but they are also highly recommended in the diet for diabetic and anaemic people.” Cooperative Santa Margherita has obtained good results with its cherry tomatoes production as well, especially with the varieties Fragolino and Minuetto. Ignazio: “We are expanding our market in Norway and Denmark and we are going to test some new varieties, which will enrich our future supply.”
