6th International IPM Symposium to be held in March
The Sixth International IPM Symposium, "Transcending Boundaries," will be held in Portland, Oregon March 24-26, 2009 at the Portland Convention Center.
Symposium sessions will address IPM across disciplines, internationally, in the market place, urban settings, greenhouses and more. As we begin planning plenary sessions, your input is welcome. Please send your suggestions to Margaret Appleby, program committee chair, at margaret.appleby@ontario.ca before February 15, 2007.
The Fifth IPM Symposium, held in 2006, attracted more than 650 research, education, government, industry and environmental and health professionals from 23 countries for three days of presentations, networking and organizational meetings on key pest management issues.
Integrated Pest Management, or IPM, is a long-standing, science-based, decision-making process that identifies and reduces risks from pests and pest management related strategies. It coordinates the use of pest biology, environmental information, and available technology to prevent unacceptable levels of pest damage by the most economical means, while posing the least possible risk to people, property, resources, and the environment. IPM provides an effective strategy for managing pests in all arenas from developed residential and public areas to wild lands. IPM serves as an umbrella to provide an effective, all encompassing, low-risk approach to protect resources and people from pests." (IPM Roadmap, May 17, 2004)
