What are celery straws?
DANDY celery straws are a naturally-grown celery stalk with a hollow core. They are the first fresh alternative to a plastic straw.

How were they developed?
Using traditional plant breeding methods, DUDA cross pollinated one of its own celery varieties with a hollow-stemmed wild celery – found on its farm in Texas. The results of this cross were selected again and again and re-crossed with traditional celery until a larger, more mild-tasting, hollow-stemmed celery was produced. It has taken a number of years to develop the DANDY celery straw DUDA has today.

When will they be available to the public?
We have commercially viable quantities available now. We have seen definite interest from both the foodservice and retail areas and we are actively pursuing both markets.

Where will consumers find them?
We are still test marketing this product to find the right channel for distribution. DANDY celery straws are so unique they require consumer education to develop pull through at retail. (For example: The use of potato skins. After years of ordering them as an appetizer at TGIF, consumers are now buying them at retail for home consumption.)

Who will we market them to?
Our main push will be through foodservice outlets. We will continue educating buyers for hotels, restaurants, and other high-end, premium market places about the benefits of this specialty item.
