Russia closed until 9 January

SorusThe first two days of 2007 the market was completely without movement, which is traditional for Russia at this time of the year. Since Wednesday, 03 January, people were trading with the remnants of their stocks which were more or less emptied after New Year trade. Half of the traders were on holidays so activities are not expected to be resumed before next week.

Large arrivals are possible since mid of next week only, moreover Russian customs are implementing new software which, as usual, is not running perfect in the early stage. It blocks the products which are now in the harbors. Novorossijsk in the south is suffering from stormy weather. It brought some problems for last vessels of 2006 resulted in smashed pallets, delays with discharge, etc.

The demand is rather occasional also, the only active product in trade was Moroccan clementines whose season comes to an end. Basing upon that the only trend of first week is raising price for this product. In Saint-Petersburg it moved to 1,32-1,33 $/kg, in Moscow – to 1,44 $/kg.
