| Brazil: new potato organization
Den Bosch – A new organization is founded in the state of Minas Gerais, in the Southeast of Brazil, to support the activities on the potato culture in the region: the Potato Intelligence Centre.
The centre, which is coordinated by the Department of Agriculture (Seapa), can count on the support of representatives of organizations connected to Seapa as well as on French representatives of the Cooperation Program France/Brazil. Potato growers’ associations and other public and private partners are involved as well.
According to the Agriculture Secretary, the centre is an important key in the strengthening of the potato chain in Minas Gerais. Today, the state is the biggest potato producer in the country with a total annual production of 1,3 million MT. Besides, the state has introduced 23 new potato varieties, six of which are available for the growers.
