Spanish organic produce consumption increases 2%

Tholen - The share of consumption of organic produce has increased from 3% to 5% in Spain. The share of organic produce has increased from an annual 300K MT to 500K MT. According to a survey of the Ministry of Agriculture about 72,5% of consumers is aware of what organic represents and which are its advantages. Nonetheless, 90% of the national organic produce production is exported to other European countries, as a good demand exists there. Now that the production of organic has been increased to 800K ha, it is a matter of increasing the domestic consumption, according to Agriculture minister Elena Espinosa.
