Colle d’Oro: 17 K MT fruit and veg from Sicily

Rome – The association of agricultural firms Colle d’Oro began its activities 40 years ago, thanks to its founder Carmelo Calabrese, who was searching for a way to promote the local agricultural production. The area in which Colle d’Oro works is the southeastern part of Sicily, well known for its cherry tomatoes from Pachino and its carrots from , but also for potatoes, melons and zucchini.

Fruit and veg are cultivated on an acreage of 1.000 ha, with an annual production of 17K MT, and than they are selected, packaged and stored before being sold on the national and foreign market. The most important markets are Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark and UK.

“We took part in Fruit Logistica for the first time this year. An occurrence which has given us the opportunity to contact new clients," says sales manager Mr Calabrese. "For the future, we want to enlarge our supply with other veg varieties, like fennel, cabbage and red beets, always taking care of quality.” The commercial strategy of Colle d’Oro is in fact quality oriented and Colle d’Oro has invested very much in innovation and technology, in order to develop new cultivations and new agricultural methods.
