Spain: garlic acreage decreases 9%
Tholen - The province of Albacete has planted the largest acreage of garlic in Spain, for the season of 2005/2006 and rises beyond the acreage of Cuenca which held the first position last year in terms of acreage. The province of Albacete has planted an acreage of 4.800 ha, which is a strong increase, while Cuenca has lowered its acreage from 9.500 ha in 2004 to 3500 this year. At a higher level it appears that Castilla-La Mancha has reduced its total acreage with 12% compared to last season.
The garlic acreage in Spain for the campaign of 2006/2007 has been calculated at 16.337 ha, which is a decrease of 9% compared to the last season. The Acreage in Castilla-La Mancha has been reduced by 28% when comparing 1999 to 2005.
