Brazil moves forward with PIF certificate

Den Bosch – With the implementation of the PIF (System of integrated fruit production) in Brazil in 2004, the country has taken an important step towards international markets. Many EU-countries and the US require this certificate for the import of Brazilian produces.

The adhesion to PIF has got many advantages. Except for the opening of new markets for the growers, the produces can now be traced. This means that in cases of production or storage problems or contaminations, the deficient produces can be located making unnecessary to eliminate the whole crop. The wholesale dealers can check better the stock on produce’s expiration and origin. With this, the consumer has the guarantee of a quality produce.

GS1 Brasil is the organization responsible for the produces’ identification and information through the system GS1. The implementation of the GS1 system for the traceability of peaches is already finished in the south of Brazil. The implementation process for apples and other sorts of fruit are already started.

The advantages of PIF’s traceability and certification bring Brazil among the biggest fruit exporters with certified quality.
