Spain: annual strawberry volume Huelva amounts 300.000 MT

Tholen – The strawberry sector of the Spanish Huelva province amounts 300.000 MT per year with a market value of € 300 mln. These figures were provided by the department of agriculture and fishery.

This means that the production volume of Huelva represents 90% of the total strawberry harvest of entire Spain and 30% of the European Union. Its value represents 57% of the vegetable production of the province and 4% of entire Andalucía.

About 70% of the strawberries, over 200.000 MT, is exported. These exports represent 6% of the total agro-alimentary export of Andalucía. In the Huelva province an area of 7000 ha is dedicated to the cultivation of strawberries. The sector provides 60.000 people with a job.
