Spain: tornado strikes El Ejido

Tholen - A tornado struck the Spanish region El Ejido yesterday morning, Wednesday 8 November, around half past 10 in the morning. It has caused significant damages in several zones, both because of the tremendous rainfall, and by the storm itself. The department of agriculture evaluates the damages of both, since yesterday. The tornado passed La Molina and Puesto Rubio, both close to Las Norias. A number of 20 horticultural growers were hit by the tornado, of which 14 were in La Molina and 6 in Puesto Rubio.

The tornado must have had a diameter of approximately 50 meters. Where the tornado passed, the plastic that covered the greenhouses has been completely ripped away. Also the crops themselves were damaged. On the major part of the surface an average of 16 to 20 litres per square meter fell, but on some locations this amounted 100 litres, while at other locations this amounted only 0,5 litres.
