Peru increases exports of bio-bananas

Tholen - In the surroundings of the North Peruvian city Tumbes, several banana growers are cultivating biological bananas. In 2005 total exports of bio-bananas amounted 7.184 MT which were destined for Japan, the US and Germany. It concerned 3.885 MT destined for Japan, 2.887 MT to the US and Germany imported 411 MT of biological bananas for the first time in 2005. The past years Japan was the most important buyer of bio-bananas. The imported into Japan volume has slightly increased compared to the 3.746 MT in 2004.
