Tomato exports Tenerife decreased 54% in 10 years
Tholen - The Canary tomato sector, and most particularly the production on Tenerife, would be in danger of being further reduced, as appears at the end of an historically poorly finished campaign. The export volume of this season since October last year has decreased with 12% to 61K MT, while prices have been reduced with about 50% compared to last year. Over the past 10 years, the export volume of Tenerife tomatoes has decreased with 55%. Different causes are pointed out on the Archipelago, such as unfair competition from Morocco, which is said to sell it tomatoes below the entry price level fixed by the EU.
