Pakistan: orange shipment to Iran

The government and private shipping companies have geared up efforts to ensure availability of kinno-carrying refrigerator-containers for smooth shipment during this season.

Mateen Siddiqui, chairman Fruit and Vegetable Processors and Exporters Association (FVPEA) said Thursday another consignment of 55,000 cartons of kinno to Iran was dispatched through Karachi port.

He said because of bumper kinno crop this season, the government has revised the kinno export target upward to 0.2 million tons for this season against last year`s 0.125 million tons.

He said the increase in kinno exports would need more refrigerator-containers during this season. Apart from expected bumper kinno crop, the new markets of South Africa and China would also be claiming substantial part of exports of this item.

On import duty issue on kinno with Indonesia, which has enhanced it from five to 25 percent, chief operating officer Pakistan Horticulture Develop-ment and Export Board (PHDEB) Mohammad Iqbal said hopefully it would be resolved soon, as the early harvest programme between two countries was signed. He said PHDEB to review the availability of refers containers during the kinno season.
