| NZ: pipfruit exporters agree to co-operate as well as compete
Exporters handling 90% of New Zealand's apple and pear exports have joined a new panel aimed at bringing back some co-operation in the trade.
Twenty six exporters who have joined the Pipfruit New Zealand panel, will share information allowing them to position their fruit more effectively in an over-supplied world market.
They will also have the use of a country of origin label promoting New Zealand and its fruit production systems.
Pipfruit New Zealand's chairman, Ian Palmer, says it's the latest move to restore some marketing co-ordination to a totally deregulated industry that's trying to survive the collapse of prices in a depressed world apple trade.
