Iran: Potato processing, exports to be discussed in Hamedan
A seminar will be held here next month during which agricultural experts are expected to discuss possibilities of growing potato processing and exports.
“ Hamedan Province is one of the major potato suppliers in the country, and we aim to become one of the major potato exporting provinces, too,” said head of the provincial Trade Organization Hossein Hannan. In the two-day conference, experts will exchange suggestions over how to effectively market potatoes of this western province inside and outside the country, he stated.
Hamedan stands first in terms of the volume of potato it produces every year. “We exported 12,000 tons of potatoes to Iraq and Kuwait last year.” Potato farming is a common business among Iranian farmers while the per capita consumption of this vitamin c-, iron-rich plant hardly reaches 70 kilograms here.
