Canary banana growers have no faith in Norwegian mediator

Tholen - Canary banana exports have dropped with 18,65% this year to a total of 281.276 MT, compared to an exported volume of the previous campaign. According to Asprocan these figures relate to after the passing of the storm Delta. They signify a decrease of 64K MT in banana exports. The banana export sector appreciates the fact that the proposed EU banana import regime has survived the recent WTO round, but expects tough negotiations in defence of the banana sector during the coming year. The Canary banana growers have displayed little trust in the mediation of the Norwegian Trade minister, as Norway is a consumer of bananas and therefore has an interest in a low price and reduction of the import tariff.
