US: Spanish Clementine campaign has started
Amsterdam - As it was predicted, the delivery of Clementines began last Thursday in the United States. These citrus shipments were exported in Marisol de Vicente Giner and Pego Cooperative packagings. As it is known, the region of Safor and surroundings offer the most precocious fruit of the Spanish citrus culture. As a result, both cooperatives can carry out the first commercial actions, trying to locate the appreciated Clementinas in the speculative markets of the northeast of the country.
This fruit is surely going to be welcomed in the market of the United States, as good result of the last campaign, different from Europe. Unfortunately, the Spanish exporting sector has still not been taken seriously in Canada, a country of similar life standards.
Certainly, the attractive USA market is still seduced by the Chilean and South African Clementina during the last months. In its actual campaign, Chile has exported 6400 tons, whereas South Africa has reached a volume of 9400 tons. The sum of both countries represents only 25% of the last Spanish performance.
The Chilean and South African Clementina have been quoted in the American market at prices between $ 4,50 to $ 5, although there were quotations of $ 6 up to $ 7, specially in Los Angeles. But it was also possible to observe prices of $ 2 in Chicago and Philadelphia.
