Sicilian carrot will soon obtain European IGP hallmark
Rome – The Italian agricultural organization Cia informs that the hallmark IGP (protected geographical indication) will soon be given to the carrot from Ispica - produced since the Fifties in the Sicilian territory near Ragusa, Siracusa, Catania and Caltanissetta. The total of Italian products with the IGP hallmark will reach an amount of 154.
The carrot from Ispica is a particular early-seasonal carrot, ready for the consumption at the end of February untill the beginning of June, thanks to the Sicilian weather with higher temperatures during the winter season and long hours of daylight. The carrot from Ispica is also characterized by an intense fragrance and an herbaceous and fruity aroma, which makes this product particularly appreciated by the consumer.
The older growers still remember that the European importers were immediately able to recognize a cargo of Ispica carrots as soon as they opened it, thanks to its intense and peculiar fragrance.
