Optimism for Alabama's strawberry and peach crops

According to the Alabama Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association (AFVGA), there is a positive outlook for the state's strawberry and peach production this season. Blake Thaxton, the executive director, conveyed insights from growers, indicating a particularly promising strawberry crop, described by some as a once-in-a-decade occurrence in terms of quality and yield.

Despite a slower start attributed to cooler temperatures, expectations remain high for the crop's performance. Peach crops, similarly, are reported to be in good condition, with minimal impact from the cold weather in March. While some early peach varieties in North Alabama experienced slight damage, the overall feedback from farmers is positive. However, blueberry crops in Southwest Alabama's coastal region have suffered some damage due to freezing conditions, with potential losses still being assessed. Thaxton noted an improvement in weather conditions this spring compared to the previous year, contributing to the optimistic outlook for Alabama's fruit crops.
