Peru exported 556 tons of pineapples in March of this year, i.e. 158% more than in the same month of the previous year, according to data from FreshFruit. This increase highlights the growing international demand for Peruvian pineapple.
The distribution of exports showed a significant concentration in certain markets. The United States was the main destination with 480 tons, i.e. 86.5% of the total exported. Costa Rica had a 5.4% share; Chile, 4.1%; Spain, 3.8%; and Canada, just 0.3% of the total.
In addition, there was a diversification in the presentation of the products exported. Processed pineapple accounted for 82.5% of all pineapple exports. It was followed by frozen pineapple (7.5%), fresh pineapple (5.4%), pineapple juice (4.3%), and dried pineapple (0.3%).
