Efforts to tackle sectoral challenges were discussed during the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Sector Board meeting in Istanbul, chaired by TIM President Mustafa Gültepe.
Chairman Ferhat Gürüz of the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association praised collaborative efforts to expand exports, enter new markets, and enhance visibility globally.
He expressed concerns over the Red Sea tensions affecting the export potential of Turkey to China and certain Far Eastern countries.
Despite this, Turkey's fresh fruit and vegetable exports for February rose by 4% compared to last year, reaching $319.5 million.
Turkey's fresh fruit and vegetable exports in February totalled 465,233 tons, with mandarins, tomatoes, and lemons leading the export list. Mandarin exports reached $87.6 million, tomatoes $45.2 million, and lemons $33.7 million.
Significant increases in export volumes were observed for onions, oranges, and radishes. The top three export destinations with the highest total export volume were Russia (USD 73.7 million), Iraq (USD 34.3 million), and Romania (USD 30.8 million).
During the same period, the highest export volume growth was achieved in the markets of Iraq, Syria, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. Iraq saw an increase of 496%, Syria with a 356% rise and a value of $4.4 million, Azerbaijan with a 100% increase and a value of $3 million, and Georgia with a 93% increase and a value of $4.1 million.
