BLE Market Report KW 03/19:

Small-sized citrus: Spain, Italy, Turkey, Israel and Morocco currently on the market

The mandarin market was dominated by Spanish produce, in particular Clemenvilla. These strengthened their presence and were mostly convincing taste-wise. Israeli Orris left nothing to be desired in terms of their diameter and color. Their sales were quite steady, despite strong demand from distributors. Only in Cologne, prices went down somewhat. Turkey increasingly participated with Nadorcott. The first Minneolas arrived in Munich and Berlin. They could not compete with the Turkish Murcotts and generated only little attention.

From Turkey came Tacles, which were in a way complementary. The inconsistent sorting and peel defects led to only weak interest in Cypriot Novas. In the clementines segment, priority was given to Spanish clemenules. At some places, Moroccan Nours sold quite quickly. Italian products -with leaves- completed the range of goods. The Turkish campaign ended with regard to Satsumas. In general, prices generally remained at their current levels, as demand could be easily met. Only locally prices dropped a bit.

Apples
As usual at this time of year, Germany dominated the scene with many varieties. All in all, business was calm. Demand was covered with ease.

Pears
Italian Abate Fetel and Santa Maria formed the basis of the range of goods and their presence grew a bit. Williams Christ of the same origin, however, lost in importance.

Table grapes
The marketing was usually quiet, at the current low temperatures. On several occasions, goods from the food retail trade affected the market. Distributors often had to lower their prices.

Oranges
In the blonde oranges segment, mainly Spanish Navelinas and Turkish Washington Navels were available. The winter weather made sales quite satisfying. Prices often remained stable.

Lemons
Spanish deliveries outweighed the Turkish ones. Demand was quite satisfactory. Prices developed unevenly.

Bananas
Sales were rather quiet, according to the season. Demand was generally not very buoyant due to the wide range of refreshing citrus alternatives.

Cauliflower
Sales were limited; various suppliers did not ship in goods on a daily basis -or during the entire week- in some markets. Prices went up due to the reduced availability.

Lettuce
Ice berg lettuce only came from Spain. However, these did not always generate a steady demand, so prices dropped from time to time.

Cucumbers
In the snake cucumber segment, Spain dominated. Supply was limited. As a result, there was an increase in prices that often lasted until the weekend.

Tomatoes
Total availability was limited. Demand was not particularly strong, but could not always be fully satisfied. So the prices often went up.

Peppers
Spanish batches formed the basis of the range. Turkey and Morocco supplemented it with significantly smaller deliveries. Sales expanded a bit. Demand remained calm.
